Chevron delivers quality fuel products and services across Australia. They operate and supply a network of more than 320 retail locations, as well as an extensive 24-hour diesel-stop network and a fuel card program. They also manage and operate 14 depots and three seaboard import terminals, including the Eagle Farm Terminal in Brisbane.
Scope:
Converted an unused tank into a surge drum to protect the facility from potential damage due to rapid upstream pressure fluctuations.
Challenges:
Successfully managed intricate tasks in challenging environments. Successfully completed hot works inside operational and hazardous fuel terminals, managing the risks of ignition and fire. Successfully completed the project working within strict shipping and transfer schedules.
Conformance:
Executed in line with relevant industry standards and environmental regulations.
Primary Works:
The project involved the manufacture of a fast-acting pressure relief device (i.e. surge relieve pipelines) to protect the BP and AMPOL import pipelines from surge events at the Eagle Farm Terminal. The device is required to protect the import manifold and transfer pipeline from overpressure resulting from surge events. KB Stainless was responsible for confirming dimensional accuracy, and associated manufacture, testing and installation of the surge relief pipework.
Works involved isolation, draining and ensuring gas-free conditions which enabled the new pipework to be installed. The project also required the engagement and project management of other disciplines such as electrical and civil works.
